Innovating with Nature: Bioprospecting Opportunities in Brazil’s Forests

Speakers: David Canassa (Reservas Votorantim) e Charbel Bouez (IFF)

This session, hosted by Reservas Votorantim and IFF (International Flavors & Fragrances), will explore how biodiversity is a source of innovation for the fragrance and flavor industry, while creating sustainable business models that finance conservation and generate value for local communities.
IFF will present its global naturals strategy, a holistic approach to unlocking nature’s potential through cutting-edge science and responsible sourcing. Anchored in the Do More Good strategy and the science of possible, this vision emphasizes traceability, regenerative practices, and sustainability-driven innovation. It aligns with Reservas Votorantim’s mission of transforming standing forests into economic opportunities that protect nature.
The event also will discuss Reservas Votorantim’s business model applied at Legado das Águas, the largest private Atlantic Forest reserve in Brazil, demonstrating how real partnerships in this important biome can lead to high-impact bioprospecting initiatives that connect biodiversity, business, and long-term sustainability.

NbS Carbon Credits: Forest as a Climate Solution

Speakers: David Canassa (Reservas Votorantim), Yuri Rugai Marinho (ECCON), Marcelo C C Stabile (ECCON), Carlos Martins (ACX Brazil), Lourdes Machado (ACX Brasil), Ana Buchaim (B3) and Cristina Reis (Ministry of Finance)
In this session, Nature-Based Solutions (NbS) will take center stage as experts discuss their role in shaping the future of carbon markets, with a focus on Brazil’s pioneering position. The conversation will highlight the first carbon project registered on B3, Brazil’s stock exchange, and its trading through ACX Brasil’s platform, which is integrated with the exchange’s registry — a milestone that reinforces the country’s innovation in the environmental finance.
Speakers will share insights on key trends in both Brazilian and global carbon markets, emphasizing the growing demand for high-integrity carbon credits and the strategic value of methodologies such as PSA Carbonflor. The event will also address main opportunities for purchasing carbon credits and developing projects that combine scientific rigor, socio-environmental responsibility, and long-term scalability.
By linking forest conservation to economic value creation, the session will show how standing tropical forests can deliver measurable climate impact, strengthen biodiversity, and create opportunities for Brazil on the global stage.
